April Showers bring, well, May snow?!
Hmm, thats gonna cut into my outside time.
Usually when I watch the news, which isn't that often, and they are reporting a big dump in the mountains and foothills, Im psyched. It means riding steep lines through the trees and having fun with my family and friends doing one of the things we love. Its also a sure sign that its ski season.
Only it isn't?!
We are forecasted for 2 to 3 feet of snow here in CO for the mountains and foothills. It's a good thing I live in the foothills or I might get even more snow! It means that for the time being, anything I was working on outside just became an alpine slog, even the boulders near my home will be fluffy pillows come tomorrow morning. I used to be surprised by CO weather but I have come to embrace it and on some weird level, really laugh at it. Just this past weekend, Cyn and I were climbing outside for Mother's Day in tank tops and shorts. I actually think I got a bit of sunburn on my shoulders. Now tonight and tomorrow, I have to be careful not to freeze! It's a fun mix here and I enjoy it all, Im just hoping we don't loose trees to this one. It also helps me to focus on the task at hand today, which is taking a fellow amputee climbing for the first time since he lost his leg. Pablo is a strong young climber who lost his leg in a climbing fall. Sound familiar???
Anyway, he is getting back to the gym today with my help and a chair, and will wobble up his first climbs again without a leg. He is both excited and scared in equal parts, and I think it will do a ton for his mindset. He is a bit down of late, not surprising since he cut his leg off, but I think getting back to what he knows will do a world of good for him. Its fun for me to help him out because he tries really hard, and I think that in a year, he won't even remember this being hard.
Keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Stay warm.
Peace,
c
