Getting Old!

Man, can you say ouch!
So there I was.... That place would be with my wonderful wife Cyn in the mountains, both on skies under a perfect blue Colorado sky. Thats all the good stuff. We were standing at the entrance to the terrain park and I was talking to her about doing a 360. For anyone who has seen a skier do this, it is way cool. I had been doing a switch 180, jumping and landing backwards, for a year, I felt ready to make the rest of the turn happen. Cyn was just psyched to try a full 360, and today would be THE day. We started small on some fun little kicker jumps and moved our way down the line to the bigger jumps. I did some 180s and felt great, slid some rails and was really feeling the love. You can see where this is going... On our 3rd trip through, I hit the jump, and didn't rotate, landed backwards, but skied it out. Mad, I took off my skies and hiked back up to correct this wrong. Pushing off, I felt scared, after-all, I have a lot of hardware in this here body, and Im pretty sure the doctors had not recommended ski jumping as any type of PT I should be trying, but there I was. I hit the jump just right, started rotating, and right around, oh lets say, 300, I got scared and stomped down my left leg. Now when that leg came in contact with the snow, it stopped me really well. So well in fact, I slammed down on the very hard jump with my hip. My neck whipped down and then I slid to a stop. Got up, and dusted myself off. As I skied over to the gang, I was amazed at how my hip hurt. We skied all day and by the end of the day, I was hurting everywhere, or so it seemed. On the drive back to the house, I rested up, and later we went climbing at the local gym. There I really found out just how sore I was. It felt like every bone in my right side was hurt. And my neck wouldn't turn. That night in bed, I couldn't lift my head since my neck hurt so much. All I could do was laugh at myself. Im really not getting any younger, but when I told this to one of the guys at the gym, and that maybe I should act my age, he asked,"Why? Why indeed? I think there are alot of men better suited to act their collective age, and we need some of me out there acting like, well, a 25 year old. I'm proud to say I can't turn to my left at all still, and my hip is killing me, but I think Im really close to landing that sucker next time! Take care, have fun. Best, c
