Getting back.
Still injury bound, but looking forward too!
Ahhh, a new year. I have to say, this new year's day was the best in my memory. My whole family, including the puppy, were skiing in Winter Park, and had grown a wee bit tired of people. We decided that the kids were old enough to try true back country stuff, after hearing of a trail that runs the entire seven miles of Berthoud Pass, we decided it was time to try. We took off around 11 and by 11:30 were clicking into skis at the top of the pass. It was a perfect day, little wind and fresh snow. We dropped into the trees following a more or less there trail and enjoyed the untracked snow all around us.We would all ski and stop to wait and as we took turns waiting for each other, I was struck with the simple beauty of the place I call home with my family. As I mentioned in a prior post, I tore my elbow tendon climbing, the thing I love to do most, and the waiting has been a hard thing to do. I'm good at telling others to have patience, but when it comes to myself, I really suck at it.
But that day, I was able to be present and only worry about the next few turns, and if the kids and Cyn were having fun. That day all I did was choose lines thru the backcountry, and that was an awesome way to experience all that God has made.
We loved it so much, we hitched a ride back to the top after our first run and did the whole thing again. You can see pics on my Facebook page.
For the new year, thats what I wanted to carry forward. I know the arm will heal, or it won't, and I can't do much about that. But to live in the moment at hand, is something I CAN do something about.
Enjoy the day, see the moment for what it is.
Peace,
c
